چکیده

The present study was conducted to determine heavy metal (cadmium and chromium) concentrations in gills, kidneys, liver, skin, muscles and scales of three fish species (Catla catla, Labeo rohita and Cirrhina mrigala) from three stations viz. Lahore Siphon (Up stream), Shahdera Bridge and Baloki Headworks (Down stream) in the river Ravi, Pakistan. Heavy metal concentrations varied significantly depending upon the type of fish tissues and locations. The concentrations of cadmium and chromium differed significantly (p<0.001) among five fish organs and three sites and non-significantly between the three fish species. Fish liver appeared to have significantly higher tendency for the accumulation of cadmium and chromium (4.26 ± 1.57 and 6.23 ± 1.14 μgg), while gills had minimum concentrations (1.10 ± 0.53 and 1.46 ± 0.52 μgg) of these metals. Generally, Catla catla showed higher levels of metal concentrations than Labeo rohita and Cirrhina mrigala. Metal contamination was highest at Baloki Headworks, probably due to inclusion of more effluents from industrial and sewage water.

Effect of phenol on haematological components of Indian major carps Catla catla, Labeo rohita and Cirrhinus mrigala.

The effect of phenol on haematological components of Indian major carps, Catla catla, Labeo rohita and Cirrhinus mrigala were observed. After exposure to sublethal concentrations of 5.17 mg l(-1), 6.06 mg l(-1) and 6.99 mg l(-1), the number of red blood cells, haemoglobin content and packed cell volume all decreased but the glucose level increased. The order of decrease in the haematological co...

Effect of Artificial Diet and Culture Systems on Sensory Quality of Fried Fish Flesh of Indian Major Carps

Two 90 days experimental trials were conducted to evaluate the effect of artificial diet (35% protein) on sensory quality of yearlings of Indian major carps (Labeo rohita, Cirrhinus mrigala and Catla catla). Experimental diet was given at 3% of fish wet body weight per day. After 90 days trial organoleptic study of fried fish was carried out by twelve panelists using hedonic scale for each spec...

Labeo rohita, Gibelion catla, Cirrhinus mrigala, Ctenopharyngodon idella and Hypophthalmichthys molitrix were grown together for 365 days in triplicate ponds. Six iso-caloric feeds having varying protein levels i.e. 22, 24, 26, 28, 30 and 32% were prepared and supplemented to fish at 2% fish weight daily. Significantly, higher final average weight (793 ± 197 g) and total length gain (398 ± 40 m...
